Carolina Chocolate Drops + Luminescent Orchestrii

The Carolina Chocolate Drops are an excellent young roots-music trio from North Carolina, whose members trained under traditional-fiddle legend Joe Thompson. The band recently issued Genuine Negro Jig, an album on fancy Nonesuch Records. A punky five-piece string band, the Luminescent Orchestrii plays renditions of Appalachian and Gypsy tunes that run from lively and infectious to deeply melancholy.
