Led by trombonist-composer Curtis Hasselbring, New Mellow Edwards split the difference between skronky avant-jazz and driving yet whimsical chamber prog. The group only grew wilder and more oddly arresting when it expanded from a quartet to a septet for its latest release, Number Stations. Expect to hear from that record at this gig, which features the all-star cast of reedist Chris Speed, guitarist Mary Halvorson, vibist Matt Moran, bassist Chris Lightcap, and dual drummers Tomas Fujiwara and Jim Black.
