Deviant Septet

This new contemporary-music outfit, led by new-music vets Bill Kalinkos (clarinet) and Mike Gurfield (trumpet), bursts onto the scene with a fully staged version of Stravinsky's L'Histoire du soldat (A Soldier's Tale) with the original instrumentation plus world premieres by Dutch composer Ruben Naeff and Alarm Will Sound cellist Stefan Freund. Gurfield's arrangement of "Titties ’n’ Beer," Frank Zappa's twisted homage to the Stravinsky piece, adds an exclamation point to the end of the program.
