You might easily mistake Dollshot—the quartet of vocalist Rosalie Kaplan, saxophonist Noah Kaplan, keyboardist Wes Matthews and bassist Giacomo Merega—for a straightforward jazz group, up until you realize the moody material it serves up on the bandstand is as likely something by Schoenberg, Poulenc and Ives, or by Jimmy Van Heusen or one of the group's members. The group's sound is impossible to pigeonhole, and well worth a listen.
