Time Out says

You could feel the electricity in the air when Mexican superstar Chavela Vargas made her overdue Carnegie Hall debut in 2003, at the age of 83. Vargas, a living legend and gay icon with a gift for voicing ranchera ballads in a way that gripped your heart, died in August of this year. Now, three contemporary followers—Mexico's Ely Guerra and Eugenia León, and Peru's Tania Libertad—salute her as part of Carnegie's Voices from Latin America series.
