New York City’s Colombian scene swings into full effect for this annual festival. This year's event, the seventh, features guest of honor Toto la Momposina as well as performances by Gregorio Uribe Big Band, Marta Gomez, Samuel Torres and others. Colombia boasts an astonishing array of music—drums played on the Caribbean coast are completely different instruments from those favored on the Pacific shore—and its commercialized rock by Shakira and Carlos Vives spans the globe. What this festival reveals are the savvy evolutions that New Yorkers have impressed upon forms like the fandango, cumbia and vallenato.
