Singer Amanda Palmer lately seems more interested in being shocking for shocking's sake than creating meaningful art. Take Evelyn Evelyn, a concept album recorded with Seattle musician Jason Weble. The idea is that the musicians "discovered" the musical talents of conjoined twins, whose "backstory" includes physical and emotional abuse. But it feels exploitative more than anything else: You wonder why Palmer (who dismissed valid criticism on her Twitter feed) and Webley needed the cloak of issues like sexual abuse and physical limitations to create their dubious art.
