Federico Ughi

Seasoned avant-jazz drummer Federico Ughi shows off his compositional know-how at a release party for the new Federico Ughi Quartet. Like Ughi's outstanding 2012 album, Songs for Four Cities, this latest LP zeroes in on a warm, engaging sound, pitched between earthy postbop and reflective free jazz. Here, Ughi leads two quartets, each featuring saxist David Schnug and cornetist Kirk Knuffke (both heard on the record); bassist Will McEvoy completes the band during the first set, while Jeff Snyder steps in on electronics for the second.
