The populist Baroque opera company Opera Omnia returns to LPR three years after it catalyzed the club's classical programming with a sold-out run of Monteverdi's Coronation of Poppea. This time, it brings an English-language version of Francesco Cavalli's Giasone, an absurd take on the myth of Jason and Medea, starring the smart and versatile soprano Hai-Ting Chinn as Medea and mezzo-soprano Cherry Duke in the title role. Music director and harpsichordist Avi Stein vows to uphold high historical-music standards even as the stage director Crystal Manich works to make the 360-year-old work come alive for a hip, modern audience.
