Nobody saw it coming during his early years, but Greg Osby has become one of the most important bandstand pedagogues in jazz, an Art Blakey for postmodernists whose group has spawned Jason Moran, Stefon Harris, Harold O'Neal, Nir Felder and Sara Serpa. Here, following a recent Village Vanguard run, Osby's quartet with pianist Simona Premazzi, bassist Pablo Menares and drummer Damion Reid heads to Brooklyn for tonight's 9:30pm set. At 8:15pm, saxist Russell Kirk leads a band with guitarist Kevin Clark, bassist Ed Howard and drummer Clarence Penn.
