Fronted by the Johnny Depp–esque Ville Valo, Finland's H.I.M. (short for His Infernal Majesty) blends goth-rock melancholy, infectious pop hooks and solid crunch into a formula it calls Love Metal, in the process winning over millions of sad hearts in Europe—and here. The band hits town this week for two shows, plugging last year's Tears on Tape. Opening are British cult faves Anathema, who started out playing gothy doom metal and evolved into a soaring, proggish atmospheric-rock outfit.
