Cellist, composer and bandleader Hank Roberts, a modern-jazz thinker with a folksy heart, was a New York fixture during the downtown-improv explosion in the late ’80s and early ’90s, then moved upstate for a quieter mode of existence. His rare appearances here are something to be savored; this one finds him in cahoots with pianist John Stetch and drummer Jim Black.
