The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, a venerable experimental-music collective whose Chicago roots stretch back to the mid-’60s, kicks off its annual NYC concert series with an exciting double bill. Pianist and AACM cofounder Muhal Richard Abrams duets with perpetually cutting-edge trombonist George Lewis, while saxist, flutist and composer Henry Threadgill—who made his recorded debut with Abrams more than four decades ago—pilots his simmering and utterly singular Zooid ensemble.
