Ilaiyaraaja

Indian film composer Ilaiyaraaja is something of a superstar back home, having scored over 950 movies since the 1970s, fusing Indian folk and Carnatic elements with Western styles, polyrhythms with synth motifs. He's internationally renowned too, having composed for Britain's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, though he rarely plays live. Tonight marks his first appearance in the USA, and he'll be backed by an orchestra and a bevy of singers.
