Joanne Brackeen Quartet

When she hit town in the ’70s, Joanne Brackeen quickly established herself as a pianist well versed in the avantish side of jazz piano. From there, however, she went on to become the first (and only) woman to be a member of Art Blakey’s mainstream institution the Jazz Messengers. The latest edition of her always-impressive quartet includes tenor-sax stalwart Mark Turner, bassist Ugonna Okegwo and drummer Johnathan Blake.
