Johnny Houx is a talented young folksinger with a literate edge and old-fashioned sensibility, channeling the pre-plugged Greenwich Village scene of the early ’60s. Chicagoan violist-songstress Anni Rossi recorded her debut album, Rockwell, with Steve Albini (à la Joanna Newsom), and her pretty vocals and spiky melodies suggest a poppy take on St. Vincent and Andrew Bird.
