The original American Idol–turned-international-superstar, Kelly Clarkson, plus the Fray—the Colorado piano rockers best known for their radio-looping single "How to Save a Life"—hit the stage at Nikon Jones Beach Theater exactly a month after beginning their tour together. After finishing a stint with the The Voice, the sweetheart of the South set out in support of her album Stronger, bringing her usual Texas sass and power-punching voice to each number on Saturday night. The Fray, also promoting a new album, Scars & Stories, jumped all over their musical canon, opening with "All at Once," from their first studio album, How to Save a Life, and followed with a fresh-out-of-the-oven number, "Turn Me On," from their newest release. The Denver foursome additionally whipped out the familiar emotion-infused ballad "You Found Me," a throwback to their self-titled 2009 album. Opening for the heavyweight headliners were the catchy alt-rockers Carolina Liar. TONY photographer Bill Kelly captured the action.
