Ken Thomson and Slow/Fast

Reedist Ken Thomson, often heard in the raucous prog-jazz quartet Gutbucket, showcases his subtler tendencies at the helm of Slow/Fast. The band's work—as heard on its new second disc, Settle, celebrated here—features gorgeous melodies rendered with a spare chamber-jazz palette and some well-placed skronk.
