Darmstadt Institute 2011. A true torchbearer of the Darmstadt aesthetic, the octogenarian Larry Austin has been a pioneer in experimental electroacoustic music. Tonight some of his long-time collaborators—including contrabassist Robert Black, saxophonist Steve Duke, tárogató performer Esther Lamneck and flutist Jacqueline Martelle—present a retrospective concert. Plus, as the audience is enveloped by the octophonic sound field in Williams [re]Mix[ed], the ghost of John Cage surely won't be far.
