Veteran crooner Lee Fields, now in his sixties, finally hit his stride on his latest disc, Faithful Man, after four decades spent playing in countless styles. Contemporary soundmen, paradoxically, helped him successfully re-create the music he was raised on, fulfilling the grand potential promised by his previous album. Clearly, Fields has found the high ground between classic soul and modern interpretation. Bespectacled young musician Nick Waterhouse kicks off the party with his boogie-inducing, sax-riffed R&B, as heard on his excellent debut, Time's All Gone.
