Lee Konitz, Bill Frisell, Gary Peacock and Joey Baron + Francisco Mela Quintet

The greatest living torchbearer for the cool-jazz generation, alto saxophonist Lee Konitz keeps on pushing ever forward. Hot on the heels of Live at Birdland, a gorgeous new ECM disc recorded uptown with Brad Mehldau, Charlie Haden and Paul Motian, Konitz hits the Blue Note with a similarly starry unit; one can only hope the tape is rolling this week, too. Sharing this engagement is vibrant drummer Francisco Mela, whose solid quintet includes saxophonist Chris Potter and guitarist Ben Monder.
