Time Out says

Tchaikovsky was the guest of honor at Carnegie Hall's first opening night 120 years ago and his legacy lives on tonight when maestro Valery Gergiev and St. Petersburg's stately Mariinsky Orchestra play an all-Russian program to kick off this season. In between Shostakovich's Festive Overture and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, cello god Yo-Yo Ma joins in for Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme.
