Classically trained Brazilian singer Marisa Monte has sold ten million albums worldwide and sings in the Música Popular Brasileira style, which coolly updates bossa nova and samba. On the first Red Hot + Rio album she dueted with David Byrne, and on its 2011 follow-up, she sang with Devendra Banhart and Rodrigo Amarante. Oh, and she offers an unbearably lovely cover of the Velvet Underground's "Pale Blue Eyes." A pretty cool lady, we'd say.
