Currently in the midst of insane, potentially record-breaking "50 states plus D.C. in 51 days" tour, venerable alt-metal eccentrics Melvins hit Williamsburg and Hoboken this week. That "Lite" you see on the marquee doesn't signify some sort of lame unplugged set; what it means is that as on the newish Freak Puke LP, core ’Vins Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover will be joined here by journeyman four-string god Trevor Dunn (of Mr. Bungle, Fantômas and various avant-jazz outfits) on upright bass. If the boldly experimental album is any indication, this should be one fascinating departure.
