John Cage and Merce Cunningham's epic collaboration grew out of a shared belief that dance and music ultimately had to be independent of each other. So it makes sense that this dynamic collective, which has made the music of New York School composers one of its specialties, would present a festival called Music Without Dance. Over two evenings, the group will perform stand-alone versions of music originally composed for dance by Christian Wolff, Miguel Frasconi, Shelley Burgon, Jon Gibson, Christopher McIntyre, Joan La Barbara, Annea Lockwood and John King. Curious listeners can also attend a free panel discussion on Sat 26 at 6pm that aims to illuminate the evolving relationship between dance and music. The complete schedule is available at greenwichhouse.org.
