This fine ensemble and its newly installed music director, Jacques Lacombe, open a new winter festival inspired by the elements. First up is water, celebrated in Fauré's limpid Pelléas et Mélisande suite, Debussy's sweeping La Mer, Tobias Picker's placid Old and Lost Rivers and Tan Dun's splashy Water Concerto, the last with soloist David Cossin. The festival includes a full slate of related activities, including panel discussions about conservation; for information go to njsymphony.org.
