New Juilliard Ensemble

Harold Meltzer's appealing harpsichord concerto Virginal is well on its way to becoming a new-music repertoire staple. Here, in the first concert of the season by Joel Sachs and his intrepid student explorers, it's the one familiar piece amid U.S. premieres by Salvatore Sciarrino, Poul Ruders and Philip Cashian. Completing the program is Elliott Schwartz's Chamber Concerto III in its first local performance, marking the composer's 75th birthday.
