The burgeoning global fame of prolific Syrian singer Omar Souleyman has been fueled by three Sublime Frequencies compilations, a hit YouTube video and a potent endorsement from Björk on NPR. His manic electronic take on the Syrian dance style called dabke is custom-made for manic dancing at weddings, but translates to Western dance floors just fine.
