Few bands have the ability to be flamboyant, kind of annoying, promising and amazing onstage all at the same time. !!! (it’s pronounced either “chik chik chik” or “that band whose name is three exclamation points”) flies in the face of that and all reasoning. The large collective’s latest strings together repetitive dance beats and cool, tinny sounds that strive for a dark Talking Heads groove. The band just released its fourth album, Strange Weather, Isn't It?, on Warp. Philly's Pattern Is Movement has just two members, but they manage to create a very baroque-sounding sort of art pop. The music is grandiose, brimming with strings and synths, but it has a quirky edge.
