Panda Bear + Avey Tare (DJ set) + Teengirl Fantasy + Gala Drop

From the looks of it (and the sounds as well, on a new seven-inch), Animal Collective member Panda Bear (real name Noah Lennox) is going for something strikingly different than his last solo affair, 2008's haunting pop opus Person Pitch. Lennox told TONY that the recording process, which found him trying new equipment arrangments, "definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone. But to me, it’s a good thing.… I guess I can’t say whether I think it’s good or not, but that, in itself, is good to me." (Read the rest of the interview at timeoutnewyork.com/thevolume.) He'll try the new songs out tonight at Governors Island with support from fellow Collective member Avey Tare, who will play a DJ set, and glitchy dream-pop newcomers Teengirl Fantasy.
