Brooklyn-via-Alabama songman Matthew Houck recently released Muchacho de Lujo, a bare-bones live disc based on his current, rightly lauded album, Muchacho. Over the past decade, Houck's music has moved from melancholy, unadorned songs to rollicking Exile on Main Street–toned rock & roll, via a collection of Willie Nelson covers praised by the country hero himself. This latest bunch of songs combines deep blue longing with seriously honed songwriting chops. This afternoon show at Rough Trade is free, so get in line early!
