Rob Mazurek

Cornetist and intrepid sonic adventurer Rob Mazurek, probably best known for his work with his various Chicago Underground projects, hits town with the Brazilian spin-off, São Paulo Underground, a festive, Tropicália-informed psych-jazz unit featuring multi-instrumentalists Guilherme Granado and Mauricio Takara. The Apr 14 gig features Black Cube SP—heard on the grittily rousing recent LP, Return the Tides: Ascension Suite and Holy Ghost, a tribute to Mazurek's late mother—which augments the São Paulo Underground lineup with rabeca (Brazilian fiddle) player Thomas Rohrer.
