The Lincoln Center's Roots of American Music series, now in its 27th year, teams up with the Louisiana rock & roll organization Ponderosa Stomp to pay homage to Detroit. Performing in the afternoon are the bluesman Eddie Kirkland, the Motor City Soul Revue (featuring Motown vet Dennis Coffee) and Melvin Davis, Spyder Turner and the Velvelettes—all of whom will be backed by the Party Stompers. The evening program (5pm) brings Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels ("Devil in a Blue Dress"), famed rock pioneers ? & the Mysterians, garage rockers the Gories and Death, a recently dusted-off proto-punk band.
