Roscoe Mitchell 70th Birthday Celebration

Time Out says

When saxophone veteran Roscoe Mitchell is in a certain mood, his improvisations can match any noise artist or metal band on the planet for sheer perverse abrasiveness. But the beauty of an impending Mitchell performance—such as this week's 70th-birthday celebration—is that it go could any number of ways, from forebodingly abstract to near-cartoonish. Expect tonight's show (featuring a duo with computer musician David Wessel and a quartet with pianist Dave Burrell, bassist Henry Grimes and drummer Tani Tabbal) to run the contemporary-classical/free-jazz gamut, with Mitchell's laser-focus lines tying it all together.
