JapanNYC festival. Venerable conductor Seiji Ozawa brings the orchestra he cofounded in 1984—in memory of his mentor—to New York as the flagship event of Carnegie Hall's extensive, multidisciplinary JapanNYC festival. In the first of three concerts, Ozawa conducts the U.S. premiere of Decathexis by Atsuhiko Gondai. Splendid pianist Mitsuko Uchida is featured in Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, and the evening ends with Brahms's Symphony No. 1.
