A mesmerizing pedal-steel player whose work can sound like the nexus of Indian classical music, the John Fahey acoustic guitar lineage and outer-limits free improv, Susan Alcorn settles in for a two-night stand at Issue. Wednesday's show features Alcorn's new arrangements of Astor Piazzolla pieces (performed with avant-jazz luminaries such as Darius Jones and Michael Formanek), as well as a "Country Western improv group" with bassist Skulí Sverrisson, multi-instrumentalist C. Spencer Yeh and others. Thursday features a solo Alcorn improv performance, as well as interpretations of her work by violinist Eyvind Kang, reedist-guitarist Doug Wieselman and others.
