The Most Serene Republic is a young, coed band of Canadian sophisticates playing atmospheric pop. It plays here in support of a new EP, Fantastick Impossibliss. The constituents of Annuals' avant-roots sound are familiar enough: alt-country guitar strums, postpunk distortion, orchestral-pop strings…you know the drill. But sweet-voiced frontman Adam Baker and his bandmates blend those elements with a refreshing sense of wonder rarely heard from seen-it-all indie types.
