The Queen of Spades

Odds are that this latest incarnation of Tchaikovsky's grand ghost drama will be a passionate affair. Vladimir Galouzine brings his powerful tenor to the obsessive gambler Ghermann, a role that has become one of his calling cards. The sparkling cast is rounded out by Karita Mattila as the victim of Ghermann's deception, Peter Mattei as her suffering betrothed and Dolora Zajick in the title role. Rising Latvian conductor Andris Nelsons leads the Met Orchestra, after making his debut in 2009 with a rousing rendition of Turandot.
