Thrones is Washington State bassist Joe Preston, whose résumé of heaviness is as legit as they come: Melvins, High on Fire, the Whip, Harvey Milk, etc. Preston's solo sets, marked by blown-out backing tracks and awkward stage banter, are head-scratchers but usually worth the trouble. Pomped-up, ’70s-style prog-metalists Danava help set the stage.
