Tim Berne Quintet + Jeff Gauthier Goatette

For all that Tim Berne comes off as a quintessential New York composer and bandleader, he first picked up the alto sax while attending college in Oregon, and has long kept common cause with many of the California players now documented on Jeff Gauthier's Cryptogramophone label. Gauthier plays the early set with his Goatette, no doubt emphasizing the elegant new Open Source; Berne follows with a striking five-piece featuring Oscar Noriega and Mary Halvorson.
