In Portals, the ambitious young violinist weaves a multimedia tapestry featuring the world premiere of Philip Glass's seven-movement Partita for Solo Violin, inspired by Glass's ensemble work Book of Longing, which is in turn a nod to Leonard Cohen's 2006 poetry collection of the same name. The evening explores themes of desire, love and sorrow with dance films by Benjamin Millepied; video by filmmaker Kate Hackett; Cohen's words spoken by radio personality Fred Child; and additional music by Aaron Jay Kernis, William Bolcom, Nico Muhly, Kevin Puts and Lev Zhurbin.
