Toshiko Akiyoshi and Lew Tabackin Quartet

Tenorist Lew Tabackin spent much of his career performing in the big band led by his wife, Toshiko Akiyoshi. With that orchestra retired, Tabackin now gets to show off the gorgeous tone that was often hidden in Akiyoshi’s burnished reed section—and here the pianist gets to flaunt her own Bud Powell–inspired chops as well.
