Tonight, the idiosyncratic Manhattan composer-artist-inventor Tristan Perich celebrates the release of 1-Bit Symphony (Cantaloupe). The record’s five movements come not on traditional CD or LP, but via a device of Perich’s creation: a loop of wires attached to a microchip and lithium battery, all housed in a jewel case. To hear its piercing electronic compositions, a listener plugs headphones directly into the case—a music box for the iPod era. For the Roulette show, the device will be plugged into big speakers for a group listening. Joining Perich are Providence noise artist Shawn Greenlee and local composer Daniel Wohl.
