It borders on criminal that more postpunk connoisseurs aren’t hip to the jarring No Wave trio Ut. Compared with ephemeral peers such as DNA and the Static, the band was prolific and abiding, releasing four albums and two EPs during its 1978–90 lifespan. The group also bridged a stylistic and geographical divide within the scene: Nina Canal represented No Wave’s conceptual Soho subset, whereas Jacqui Ham and Sally Young personified its less formal East Village aesthetic. Following one U.K. gig, Ut has officially reunited for a brief transatlantic tour. Opening are the ruthless local art-punks of Sightings and noise-guitar whiz Bill Nace.
