Violent Femmes called it quits back in ’09, after bassist Brian Ritchie lambasted frontman Gordon Gano for authorizing the use of "Blister in the Sun" in a Wendy's commercial. (Said Ritchie: "…when you see dubious—or in this case disgusting—uses of our music, you can thank the greed, insensitivity and poor taste of Gordon Gano.") Improbably, the two mended fences back in 2012—and reunited with original drummer Victor DeLorenzo at Coachella—but they've since sacked DeLorenzo and replaced him with the Femmes' backing band drummer John Sparrow. Drama! Nevertheless, here the Milwaukee quirk-pop heroes take to the Celebrate Brooklyn stage to headline an outdoor gig.
