After winning a Grammy for Bon Iver, Justin Vernon packed the project away behind the hunting rifles in his Wisconsin closet. The down-to-earth Eau Claire, WI, native immediately jumped into a new band, the Shouting Matches, a straight approach to blues-rock. Now he returns to Volcano Choir, his collaboration with America's Dairyland bros (he's a homer at heart) Collection of Colonies of Bees. It's not too far off from his popular records, a touch more post-rock with some added grandeur. Repave, a new record, should fill the Bon Iver–shaped hole in fans' hearts.
