Lincoln Center's fall festival exploring the spiritual properties of music and art bursts onto the scene on Fri 21, with Sir Colin Davis leading the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, plus a stellar quartet of soloists in one of Beethoven's most sacred works, the Missa Solemnis. The LSO returns on Sun 23, this time with Gianandrea Noseda on the podium, for Britten's heart-wrenching War Requiem with soloists Sabina Cvilak, Ian Bostridge and Simon Keenlyside. On Sat 22, violinist Gidon Kremer posits that Russian mysticism in music owes a debt to Bach, playing Bach's Chaconne for solo violin and works inspired by it by Gubaidulina, Silvestrov and Shostakovich.
