The contemporary Virginia band Wild Nothing is a dead ringer for British bands of the 1980s, proudly shoegazing. Many songs on the band's album, Gemini, would fit nicely on the soundtrack of a John Hughes movie. Zonked-out, atmospheric outfit Blank Dogs, actually the work of a single dude—Mike Sniper, who also runs the Captured Tracks label—is one of a ton of lo-fi indie-pop acts currently setting the blogs ablaze. It’s a bit like Wavves but with more of an eerie, psychedelic feel.
