Northside Festival. Local troupe Real Estate has planted its flag in early VU territory, full of great intros and heady hums—stoned summertime music, in other words. Woods’ lazily funky drums and fuzz-fried guitars, along with singer Jeremy Earl’s falsetto hoot, summon the nocturnal forest eeriness of Twin Peaks, '70s slasher films and Where the Wild Things Are. The band's fifth and latest album, At Echo Lake, is a winner, but it's live that Woods really comes into its own. Don't miss the bent pop act Sic Alps.
