Time Out says

When composer William Basinski was transferring some of his old recordings to digital format, the tape began to deteriorate, taking with it pieces of sound, and inspiring one of the most moving ambient works of all time, The Disintegration Loops. Basinski was just finishing the project on Sept 11, 2001, and it unintentionally became the day’s soundtrack as he and his friends watched the towers collapse from their Brooklyn rooftop. Ten years later, the Wordless Music Orchestra will premiere a live orchestration of the piece by Maxim Moston at the Met’s Temple of Dendur. Complete with pieces by Ingram Marshall, Alfred Schnittke and Osvaldo Golijov, the program creates a tasteful, meditative space to mark the anniversary.
